It’s been a very busy couple of weeks for us at the gym.
Back on Friday, October 26th, we held a ‘Trick-or-Treat Climbing, Movie Night and BBQ Event’ for our members and kids who come to the gym. There were some very inventive costumes displayed from kids and adults alike. We got the festivities rolling around 4pm with a trick or treat climbing for kids in costumes. Pumpkins full of candy were hung up at the top of climbs around the gym and those who were costumed up were treated to candy when completing a climb. We started showing the movie Monsters Inc. upstairs for the kids, though many of them were consumed by climbing and eating. We had several ‘first time to the top’ costumed climbers, no doubt motivated by the reward above.
About 6pm the adult festivities kicked off with a BBQ provided by our locally owned gear store, Outdoor Gear Exchange. Thanks guys! Costumes filled the gym and folks were climbing all over the place so they could reap sugary reward. The grill kept going well into the night and, like the movie Monsters Inc. for the kids, we showed the ultra-classic Ghost Busters upstairs for the adult crowd.
All in all it was a fun-filled event with lots of great costumes. Thanks to all who came out to climb and socialize. Stay tuned for other member appreciation events and clinics in the future.
The ‘Trick-or-Treat member appreciation day’ was the kickoff to 3 weekends of packed events. The following weekend we held our annual Reel Rock Film Tour event. This is our biggest event of the year and always tends to pack the gym full of folks anticipating jaw dropping footage of climbing from some of the worlds top athlete’s. This year was no exception. With a packed house and a loud sound system, we got the movie rolling around 7pm. With little standing room left it sure was a sight to behold. During the intermission we raffled off several great prizes from a wealth of sponsors. Shout out is in order to Mammut, Petzl, Outdoor Research, The North Face, Eastern Mountain Sports, Climb High, Outdoor Gear Exchange, Climberism, Evolv, Julbo, US Sherpa Intl., Runa Tea, Clif Bar, Health Warrior, Awake Coffee and Vermont Rock. Thanks goes to everybody who came out and partied with us. We’re already looking forward to next years show.
Following this great event we held our annual ABS (American Boulder Series) Bouldering Competition on Saturday, November 9th . Staff started stripping boulder problems the Tuesday before in preparation for the 95 new boulder problems that would be set for the comp. Setting continued through the week and finished moments before the competition started at 3pm. Climbers from all over New England came out to compete. Several New England gyms brought teams to participate, with several of those climbers placing in the top 3 of their respected category. Congragulations! Climbing wrapped up a little after 6pm. Score cards were handed in and staff quickly scrambled to get results up. We ordered a bunch of pizza and by the time everybody got a slice, we started the awards.
